The University Hospital of Zaragoza and the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Barcelona has been involved in independent international investigation to identify genetic variants that are associated with bladder and prostate cancer.
Spanish researchers were able to identify an antigen gene in prostate stem cells (PSCA) which is located right in that area of the body but that it differs with other cells.
It has been determined that people who have this variant cells, which are about forty percent of the population, are 15 percent higher risk of developing bladder cancer than other people.
The PSCA is a gene that is related to the upstream initiation of bladder cancer and stomach. The study of functions and features could help design new treatments.
It is known that bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the world and this study may help people who have the gene in question is saved by having more stringent medical checks and newspapers.
