The Vertebral Osteoporosis (2)

osteoporosistoday we talk a little bit of science, according to the post. I will comment on 3 previous treatment approaches for osteoporosis:

1) HRT (hormone replacement therapy) still creates controversy in relation to breast cancer, only take 5% of menopausal women, this treatment should be monitored by the doctor, individualized, tailored to each woman to avoid risks and reviewed annually.
In most menopausal women is a safe treatment but only where evidence indicated a potential benefit.
. Women with a family history of breast cancer suffer more risk when using this treatment.
. Young women with hysterectomy are no risk of cancer.

2) Currently studies are underway to combat osteoporosis in the project ATPBone (combat osteoporosis by blocks of nucleotides: purinergic signaling in bone formation and homeostasis) financed with European funds, have shown that physical activity and other incentives to bone induce the emission of a compound called ATP that regulates bone regeneration.

3) An example of innovation in biotechnology for human health is the Denosumab (marketed under the name Prolia) is a treatment-finally available in Spain and to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis in women at high risk of osteoporotic fracture; reduces the risk of vertebral fracture, nonvertebral and hip fractures.
This drug acts on an essential regulator of osteoclasts (cells that break down bone) and consists of a subcutaneous injection every 6 months.

The Vertebral Osteoporosis (1)

osteoporosisOsteoporosis (meaning porous bone) is a disease that decreases bone density resulting in fragile bone over the years and we usually realize when it breaks, so it is a silent disease and treacherous.

It affects mostly:
- 35% of women older than 50th. With menopause due to estrogen loss (40% of women will suffer a fracture, I think it is a devastating fact with great social and economic impacts).
- Men aged 65-70th. Loss of testosterone (20% of the total cases of osteoporosis).

Currently estimated that 3 million people diagnosed with osteoporosis in Spain and it is estimated that in 20 years this figure will triple.

We have:
A) A primary osteoporosis due to age, from 30-35 years there is a decrease in bone mass is not known it is due.
B) A secondary osteoporosis, the decline in bone mass that occurs at age 30-35 is exacerbated mainly by: snuff, alcohol, steroid use, a slim, rheumatoid arthritis, and immobilizations.

Symptoms:
Small vertebral collapse causing a sharp pain that many end up in fracture with a loss of height (we ought to realize), and deformities as kyphosis (hunchback posture).

Treatment:
There is no cure but can help prevent it by:

- A treatment with estrogen in menopausal women.

- A diet rich in calcium and vitamin D throughout life especially during adolescence, monitor carbonated beverages, coffee (no more than one cup a day), and animal fats and carrying phosphoric acid that helps to decalcification ósea.Recomiendo a diet rich in copper that strengthens bones mainly found in legumes, liver, celeares and chocolate. 30% of the diets are low in copper.
Also advise foods high in bacteria (probiotics) have essential vitamins and minerals like calcium and magnesium, such as kefir (water better and many people have lactose intolerance) and also stimulate growth beyond of bones helps us to relax to reduce stress because it contains serotonin.

- A healthy lifestyle with a weight less than 55kg. Not smoking, sunbathing 10 ‘day for the absorption of vitamin D and above all avoid a sedentary lifestyle.

- Aerobic exercise for sedentary end this without risk of falls such as: cycling, I always recommend walking on inclined belt (no scientific evidence to go 1.6 km. A day produces more bone mass).

a) The weights are beneficial for strengthening bones, but I do not think any muscle tone should be avoided, such as muscle comp is already in excess of tension as the muscles that form part of the posterior chain back.
A level of the back muscles tonificaré only the shoulder blades close; separate the gluteus maximus, isometric abs so – to avoid trunk flexion vertebral collapse favors me, look at the entry that talked about how to make these abs-the quadriceps and chain extender arm and the triceps.
No fatigue when doing weights.

Note: to try to slow the fall of the chest (sooner or later we will fall by gravity) tone many women, the breast is always a mistake has never stretch tone.

b) This work will combine weights with global stretching as the “Method Mézières” to rebalance these muscle decompensation reharmonizations the body, when the posterior chain stretch back helps take the compression between the vertebrae.

- Postural advice: avoid bending the back and combine it with lifting weights (watch the grandchildren) to avoid such vertebral collapse, please read the label of “postural advice.”

- The parties agree that we always see the body as a unity, a wholeness, everything is connected not only I look at the crushed vertebra, therefore, I also recommend to help relax the muscles do 1 bath as explained in the entry: “stress management”.

Vertebral Arthritis

osteoporosisOsteoarthritis is the most common chronic rheumatic the world and the leading cause of disability after 45 years, the first thing that affects the cartilage that covers the bone until it finally ends up destroying it, also has to add a degeneration intervertebral disc with a loss of elasticity and density from 25-30 years.
These 2 factors cause friction caused vertebrae osteophytes and often due to this friction vertebrae are together in the elderly.

We have:

A) A primary osteoarthritis due to genetic factors that predispose the disease.

B) A secondary osteoarthritis due to aging, but aggravated by trauma (falls, traffic accidents) or microtrauma accumulated over the years that the joint takes its toll due to: poor posture of the spine when sitting, do not bend at the hips, lifting, obesity and others.

Symptoms:

- Arthritic pain is not related to the degree of involvement can be seen on the radiograph (x-ray people with osteoarthritis have very little pain and vice versa) and is characterized by mechanical pain increases when doing an activity and improves at rest, as the disease progresses the pain can be frequent and even at night.

- A loss of muscle strength or altered sensation (tingling, cork, etc.) caused by a nerve impingement due to osteophytes or intervertebral disc that is out of place giving a spinal compression affecting the spinal nerve.

- Dizziness or vertigo due to bone spurs that can compress the holes through which the vertebral artery.

- Stiffness due to loss of mobility of the vertebrae helped by chronic excess muscle tension we have in the back, besides adding he has poor hygiene postural we do every day, I advise you read the entries I made talking about the postural advice (at the time of sitting, lifting a weight and sleeping) not to increase muscle tension in the back i the entry of “stress management” to relax the muscles.

- Deformities caused by these rigidities for example is seen in older people with a pronounced kyphosis.

Vertebral arthritis: the disease toll collectors. Kyphosis back.

Another type of arthritis present in 70% of women over 50 years is called post-menopausal osteoarthritis.

Treatments:

Treatments today are limited.

- Medical: Paracetamol (analgesic) and NSAIDs (antiinflammatory drugs), we can use to reduce consumption chondroprotective of inflammation like condrotín sulfate and glucosamine sulfate

- Diet: There is no scientific evidence but it is recommended foods high in bacteria (probiotics) have essential vitamins and minerals like calcium and magnesium such as kefir (water better and many people have lactose intolerance) and apart from stimulating bone growth helps us to relax to reduce stress because it contains serotonin.

- Moderate exercise (high evidence), such as aerobics

I recommend the global stretching of the posterior chain back as the “Method Mézières.”
When this tension decreased muscle stretch that compresses the vertebrae, a muscle strain behaves like an iron exerting much force on the bones helping to wear and cause imbalances in the joint, the muscle is very malleable and when we stretch beyond reduce stress can return to realign the joint, but as I said before, accompanied by good hygiene and controlling postural stress.

Studies are currently using ammiòtica membrane (tissue that is removed after delivery) to prevent arthritis using 2 types of cells capable of synthesizing the tissue surrounding the injured site specific cartilage lesions when for example we take a hit; is still under study by the Institute of Biomedical Research Coruña (INIBIC), we will be waiting.

To complete the information into my site (I’ll leave the link at the bottom) and from there into my facebook page (there is a link) and look for:

- Mattress mattresses relax-hr Aznar.avi Styria (helps to reduce muscle tension in painful compression points back because of arthrosis).
- Degenerative Disc (3D video).
- Cervical Chiropractic adjusment, it looks very good relationship with the cervical vertebral artery.

Relieve Osteoporosis

OsteoporosisOsteoporosis is a silent disease that exists because of lack of symptoms is usually evident when the first fracture occurs.
The bones become fragile and porous and lower density.
This disease leads people to be prone to fractures of the hip, spine and wrist, the first two being the most serious may occur to such an extent to limit daily living.
The way to alleviate and prevent osteoporosis is, first, consumes about 800mg of calcium daily, and in addition to fixing the calcium in the body is important to take vitamin D, which is achieved by sun exposure in moderation.
It is also advisable to sleep on mattresses solid and strong, walking with an upright posture as straight as possible, should bear the weight distributing bags in both hands. And measuring the consumption of alcohol, not smoking or drinking caffeine.

OSTEOARTHRITIS

The change in lifestyle is very important. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle and opt for weight training, stationary bike, brisk walking, and rowing machines, aerobic … are all beneficial disciplines that contribute to increased bone density.
Come to Spain soon Denosumab is a new treatment that has already been approved in Germany and the patient is suffering from osteoporosis receiving once every six months an injectable dose of this medication is based on a monoclonal antibody derived from the past findings on the regulatory proteins in the distinction of principal cells of bone metabolism.
One of the main benefits that come with this new treatment that promises to reduce fractures by 60% is very good news for example women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and an alternative to the usual administered drug Fosamax.

Will have to see if treatment can be combined with estrogen-based hormone, or is incompatible.

Depression associated with osteoporosis

It is a fact that food plays a key role in preventing osteoporosis , and calcium-rich foods are responsible. However, recently a new factor is added to the causes of osteoporosis , which has been discovered by researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .

This is none other than depression, which has been identified as one of the causal factors of osteoporosis by the investigators, who relied on 14 years of research by analyzing 23 studies involving 2327 people suffering from depression and 21141 non-depressed people.

Dr. And Dr. Raz Yirmiya Itai Bab of Hebrew institution noted in the journal Biological Psychiatry that “all psychiatrically diagnosed individuals with depression are at risk for osteoporosis , with depressed women, particularly those pre-menopausal, showing a much higher risk than men.

It is therefore advisable not to underestimate the depression, which also entails some injury to the mental health of individuals, can cause a thinning and weakening of bones. For that reason it is recommended that those who suffer from this problem consult your doctor recurrence.

Food for preventing osteoporosis

The Osteoporosis in all its forms is a disease as complicated as common people. This means that sooner or later you run the risk of contracting, and the bad habits you have today, can complicate the day tomorrow.

Healthy eating is crucial to prevent many diseases , and osteoporosis is no exception to the rule. If you eat unhealthy and wrong way during your childhood and your youth, you should consider the risks of developing osteoporosis in adulthood increased. Read the rest of this entry »

Osteoporosis in Male and Female

Osteoporosis in male has a different origin of the female. Researchers at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona and Genetics Research Group Osteoporosis Center Research Institute (IMIM) have found that osteoporosis in men has a different cause than the female, publishes the journal International Tissue calcification. “

“Until now it was supposed to be produced by the same mechanism in women, but we have seen that it is not,” explained the consultant rheumatologist Bone Metabolism Section of Rheumatology Service, Hospital del Mar and study coordinator, Josep Blanch. Read the rest of this entry »

Exercise for Osteoporosis

Exercise reduced by 25% the risk of falls in patients with osteoporosis. Experts recommend physical activity in childhood and adolescence to reduce the problems associated with osteoporosis and is estimated to decrease by 25% the risk of falls in patients with osteoporosis, according explained Dr. Andrés Peña Arrebola, rehabilitation physician Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal in Madrid. Precautions to fight Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is an evil that causes bones to become porous and fragile, bringing with it the risk of fractures (vertebrae, wrist, femur …), we’ll give some tips for food in this case.

- Take 2-3 daily cups of whole or semi skimmed milk (rich in vitamin D) or equivalent (2 yogurt = 1 cup of milk).
- The small fish (small fish) or canned sardines are advised to eat them whole (the spines are rich in calcium).
- Reduce the consumption of meat (causing a loss of calcium in the urine).
- Drink plenty of fluids: a1 1.5 to 2 liters a day.
- Make exercise outdoors (sun exposure favors making vitarnina D).
- Reduce the consumption of alcohol.
- When cooking you can use all kinds of cooking: steaming, oven, grilled, fried, stewed, etc …
- Add crushed nuts to the mortar (almonds, pine nuts and hazelnuts) as ingredients in preparing dishes.
- If necessary to take food or dietary supplements rich in calcium.
- Develop recipes including cheese as an ingredient.

Artificial Intelligence Helps Diagnosis Osteoporosis

Sounds like magic but only math. “The department physician Orthopedic Surgery and professor at the University of Oviedo, Miguel Angel Suarez, were done to explain the medical revolution that will apply the techniques of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a diagnostic method. Specifically, yesterday, Dr. Suarez spoke about osteoporosis, a disease that causes every 30 seconds; a person suffers a fracture in the EU, of which only 40% recover fully. It is a condition that involves a gradual decline in the quantity and bone quality. Read the rest of this entry »
