Vertebral Arthritis
Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic rheumatic the world and the leading cause of disability after 45 years, the first thing that affects the cartilage that covers the bone until it finally ends up destroying it, also has to add a degeneration intervertebral disc with a loss of elasticity and density from 25-30 years.
These 2 factors cause friction caused vertebrae osteophytes and often due to this friction vertebrae are together in the elderly.
We have:
A) A primary osteoarthritis due to genetic factors that predispose the disease.
B) A secondary osteoarthritis due to aging, but aggravated by trauma (falls, traffic accidents) or microtrauma accumulated over the years that the joint takes its toll due to: poor posture of the spine when sitting, do not bend at the hips, lifting, obesity and others.
Symptoms:
- Arthritic pain is not related to the degree of involvement can be seen on the radiograph (x-ray people with osteoarthritis have very little pain and vice versa) and is characterized by mechanical pain increases when doing an activity and improves at rest, as the disease progresses the pain can be frequent and even at night.
- A loss of muscle strength or altered sensation (tingling, cork, etc.) caused by a nerve impingement due to osteophytes or intervertebral disc that is out of place giving a spinal compression affecting the spinal nerve.
- Dizziness or vertigo due to bone spurs that can compress the holes through which the vertebral artery.
- Stiffness due to loss of mobility of the vertebrae helped by chronic excess muscle tension we have in the back, besides adding he has poor hygiene postural we do every day, I advise you read the entries I made talking about the postural advice (at the time of sitting, lifting a weight and sleeping) not to increase muscle tension in the back i the entry of “stress management” to relax the muscles.
- Deformities caused by these rigidities for example is seen in older people with a pronounced kyphosis.
Vertebral arthritis: the disease toll collectors. Kyphosis back.
Another type of arthritis present in 70% of women over 50 years is called post-menopausal osteoarthritis.
Treatments:
Treatments today are limited.
- Medical: Paracetamol (analgesic) and NSAIDs (antiinflammatory drugs), we can use to reduce consumption chondroprotective of inflammation like condrotín sulfate and glucosamine sulfate
- Diet: There is no scientific evidence but it is recommended foods high in bacteria (probiotics) have essential vitamins and minerals like calcium and magnesium such as kefir (water better and many people have lactose intolerance) and apart from stimulating bone growth helps us to relax to reduce stress because it contains serotonin.
- Moderate exercise (high evidence), such as aerobics
I recommend the global stretching of the posterior chain back as the “Method Mézières.”
When this tension decreased muscle stretch that compresses the vertebrae, a muscle strain behaves like an iron exerting much force on the bones helping to wear and cause imbalances in the joint, the muscle is very malleable and when we stretch beyond reduce stress can return to realign the joint, but as I said before, accompanied by good hygiene and controlling postural stress.
Studies are currently using ammiòtica membrane (tissue that is removed after delivery) to prevent arthritis using 2 types of cells capable of synthesizing the tissue surrounding the injured site specific cartilage lesions when for example we take a hit; is still under study by the Institute of Biomedical Research Coruña (INIBIC), we will be waiting.
To complete the information into my site (I’ll leave the link at the bottom) and from there into my facebook page (there is a link) and look for:
- Mattress mattresses relax-hr Aznar.avi Styria (helps to reduce muscle tension in painful compression points back because of arthrosis).
- Degenerative Disc (3D video).
- Cervical Chiropractic adjusment, it looks very good relationship with the cervical vertebral artery.
